POSITION:

Chizen Law seeks a Paralegal / Case Coordinator to help manage cases and assist with the Firm’s operations. In this role, you will be involved in all phases of a legal case, from the initial client intake call to trial preparation. Moreover, you will create and manage processes to make Chizen

Law run more effectively. Job responsibilities include, for example:

Case Management:

• Handle intake calls
• Create case chronologies
• File court documents and organize service of process
• Prepare discovery requests and response shells
• Calendar litigation case deadlines
• Investigate case facts and review documents
• Interview witnesses
• Communicate with clients about case statuses
• Help attorney prepare for initial demands, mediations, depositions, and trial
• Attend mediations, depositions, and court hearings

Law Firm Management:

• Maintain and improve electronic case management system
• Assist with software procurement and technology related issues
• Help with marketing efforts
• Draft blog posts and other law firm related content
• Help update website and other promotional materials

Chizen Law, Professional Corporation

Hours: This is a part time role. Although somewhat flexible, Chizen Law is seeking an individual who can work 16 or 20 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, with most of the work hours set between 9am and 5pm. Fridays will be off!

Location: The position is remote, but you must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area with the expectation that in-person time will occasionally be required in Oakland, California.

Salary: $22-$28 per hour, commensurate with experience and skillset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

You are dedicated to Chizen Law’s mission of helping individuals harmed by corporations and government agencies. Prior experience at a law firm, although helpful, is not required. You are extremely organized, entrepreneurial, and excited to help a small law firm expand its reach. You enjoy communicating with clients, investigating corporate wrongdoing, and tackling writing assignments.

A college degree is required, and a paralegal certificate is a plus. There is no particular background for this position. You might be a recent college graduate interested in learning more about the law or a veteran law firm employee looking for a more flexible, mission-oriented, part-time role.
